Our Purpose


At Making Parenting Work, we know that working parents are often overwhelmed and feel like they don’t do an optimum job either at work or at home. Our maternity and parenting wellness programs support working parents, giving them the tools and resources they need to juggle more effectively, reduce their stress, and be more present and engaged. 


MPW programs foster a stronger work culture, reduce absenteeism and presenteeism (coming to work but not performing at full capacity), and contribute to a company's brand as progressive, family friendly, and innovative. In turn, these assets help attract and retain a talented workforce, particularly women. 

Karen Kraut, MPH, trains parents in the Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) approach based in Massachusetts General Hospital's Think:Kids program, and presents on CPS throughout greater Boston. She has a Master of Public Health from University of California, Berkeley, a Certificate in Counseling and Psychology from Lesley University, and a B.A. in Organizational Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania. Karen is a Think:Kids Certified Trainer with over a decade of experience developing and leading educational workshops. Previously, Karen served as the director and political strategist of a national coalition of grassroots nonprofit organizations. 























































​​​​​​Rachel Kalvert is a licensed clinical social worker specializing in perinatal care. Rachel works with women and men experiencing a range of pregnancy and postpartum issues. She is Adjunct Faculty at the Simmons Graduate School of Social Work, Faculty at the Infant and Parent Training Institute, a Supervisor for the Visiting Mom’s Program at Jewish Family & Children Services, and has a private practice in Brookline. Rachel did her Psychoanalytic training at Seattle Psychoanalytic Society and Institute and obtained a Master of Social Work from New York University after having a career in advertising and marketing at Leo Burnett and American Express. Rachel received her B.A. from Smith College.
